Just over a month ago the ASD Gruppo Cosmo Ice Noale opened the season by presenting the athletes competing in the various national and international events during the season 2014-2015 to a large group of fans and enthusiasts.
Given the high technical level expressed by several members of the team and the excellent results achieved by the various elements in the course of last season, the leadership of Gruppo Cosmo Ice did not hide the hopes and ambitions which were placed both on the ability and experience of the older athletes and on the enthusiasm of the new athletes that from this season have become part of the Noale team.
And as advocated by leaders and supporters, the season is reserving Gruppo Cosmo Ice great satisfaction. Excellent results have been, in fact, achieved by various athletes in the competitions held so far, thanks to which Fabio Francolini and Peter Michael, athletes who compete with the colours of Gruppo Cosmo Ice, received a convocation to participate in the recent world championships that were held in Heerenveen in the Netherlands during the month of February, respectively in the ranks of the Italian Team and the New Zealand Team.
In the course of these Championships both Gruppo Cosmo Ice athletes expressed a high technical standard and proved their undoubted ability on blades. All potentials were then shown with Fabio Francolini's feat who, with great merit on Sunday, 15 February, managed to win a prestigious second place in the world race called Mass Star, second only to the home athlete Arjan Stroetinga who preceded the Noale athlete by only 6 hundredths of a second. In addition to Fabio Francolini's great performance, also the sixth overall place obtained at the end of the World event by the other Gruppo Cosmo Ice athlete, New Zealander Peter Michael, deserves to be mentioned.
The achievement of these results represents what is strongly backed by the Noale team leadership, which from 2013 (the year of its foundation), had set the goal of being able to enter athletes born and raised in the world of roller skate racing and in the world of ice skating, a discipline reserved to a small number of athletes who are part of a small number of associations which practice exclusively this discipline.
In 2013, in fact, ASD Gruppo Cosmo Ice was founded from an idea of the President of ASD Gruppo Cosmo Noale, Roberto Geronazzo, of the "boss" Claudio Cosmo and of Federal Councillor and Vice-President of Gruppo Cosmo Ice Luigi Sartorato, who wanted to create, for the first time in Italy, a "bridge" association that would allow athletes engaged in the world of roller skate racing to embark on ice skating, thus putting to good use their years of experience in the roller skate racing sector. This intention, not easy to realise (consider that Gruppo Cosmo Ice, for training, use the Balselga di Pine (TN) circuit which is about 130 km from Noale), in just two years has, instead, materialised with athlete Filippo Daci winning the Italian title, with the convening of five athletes in the National Teams of their countries of origin and with Noale athlete Fabio Francolini coming in second place in the world championships with the Italian national team.
The validity of this project is confirmed by the high number of athletes who this season have decided to enrol with Gruppo Cosmo Ice (the headcount of the athletes which in the first season consisted of five elements has grown to over thirty athletes from many Italian regions), and by continued progress in the results obtained in the competitions which were attended by athletes from Noale, not least those obtained during last weekend during the race held at Inzell in Germany in the beautiful indoor stadium of the Max Arena, where athletes Christian Penzo, Brian Geronazzo, Cristian Sartorato, Giada Nenzi, Sara Rondina, Jacopo Losi, Carlo Polese, Gaetano Alario and Matteo Mellis (athletes who defend the colours of various associations in roller skate racing but all compete with the colours of ASD Gruppo Cosmo Ice when skating on ice), in the two competition days obtained the best personal times of the season in the various distances demonstrating continuous personal improvement from September to now.
The leadership and athletes of Gruppo Cosmo Ice are now faced by new adventures and commitments, beginning with the impending race to be held Sunday, 1 March on the Baselga di Pine track, on the occasion of the first trophy organised by the Noale Company that will be attended by athletes from various national and foreign teams and during which the recent second place, obtained in the world championship by the strong ASD Gruppo Cosmo Ice athlete Fabio Francolini, will be celebrated.
